Virtual Nerd is an award-winning, online interactive Math video collection that is available 24/7! When you need Homeschool or Homework help, “virtual nerds” are there for you- explaining difficult Math concepts and helping you through Pre-Algebra, Algebra I and II, or Introduction to Physics (with more topics to come as well as quizzes and practice problems!).
The Virtual Nerd website is a terrific way to help your student gain Math skills that you might find it difficult to explain and the teachers/tutors are always smiling and ready to explain it again if they don’t get it right away.
The videos carefully explain the concepts and demonstrates them for the student. The “interactive part” allows the student to go back “step by step” and examine each part again. There are a lot of topics to choose from. The explanations were clear and thorough. The Virtual White board was easy to read and the instructors were easy to understand.
The Old Schoolhouse Magazine TOS Crew members were given the opportunity to try out the premium membership free for 6 weeks in order to use the program in our Homeschool and tell you what we think of it.
The Website was a little difficult to navigate with Internet Explorer, but was much better in the FireFox browser. We had some trouble logging in to the account the TOS crew shared, at the site, and there was some “glitching” with the “search feature” and occasions where it would tell us that we didn’t have access to the premium explanations when we clicked on a video.
Overall, my kids enjoyed watching the videos and really liked the fact that they could easily go back to a step if the “tutor” went over it a little quickly for them. My 8th Grader watched videos from the Pre-Algebra and my High Schooler watched many of the Algebra I sections of the website. Because we had some “glitches” in using their site, I would probably try it out with one of their low-priced options before purchasing the long-term membership- just to be certain that the difficulties were out of the “norm”.
You can try it out on the website and they have lots of membership options. You can join the premium site which offers a LOT more access to topics, the FREE membership has limited explanations, but another good option for Math emergencies is the $5.00 “One Day – One time” Membership or the Weekly Membership (Also One Time) for $19.99 which can help your children over a “rough spot”. It would also be a good pre- SAT test review for your students who have not had Algebra recently, but need to take the SAT Exam. A regular, premium monthly membership costs $49.99 and you can also get 3 months for $129.00 (One Time Only).
Virtual Nerd’s flexible pricing gives you lots of options and the website gives you a good tool for teaching Pre-Algebra and Algebra concepts!
Teachers, Students and Parents may be interested in checking out their website further. If so, you can click on their logo, my nerd family picture or use this link to go visit the “Old Fashioned” way:

As a member of the TOS Homeschool Review Crew, my family was able to access the Virtual Nerd website free for six weeks in order to give you an opinion of it. No other compensation was received.
