Summer is the time for cool and refreshing homemade drinks! I love to make my own sweet tea and lemonade, but when I tried this limeade, I wanted to share the delicious recipe.
This is from my friend Laura, owner of Herbal Accents. She is one of the best gardeners and cooks I know. You can go to her website to see some of her lovely herb garden pics if you want to be inspired with ideas your own back yard and garden.
I loved this drink the first time she made it, (I was her guinea pig) and she was nice enough to share her secret for this refreshing beverage with me!
1 Cup of Lime Juice (Fresh Squeezed or Bottled)
1 Cup of Sugar
6-7 Cups of Club Soda
3-4 Medium Sweet Basil Sprigs
Extra Lime wedges and basil for serving/garnish
Directions: In a pitcher, mix juice, sugar and club soda until sugar is dissolved (or use equivalent, amount of a non sugar sweetener). Add sweet basil and lime slices to the mixture and let it set. Put crushed ice and a sweet basil sprig in each glass and pour the club soda mixture over.
Serve with a wedge of lime garnishing the edge of each glass.
The great thing about making your own summer beverages, instead of buying sodas & Kool Aid is that you control the ingredients and the amount and type of sweetener.
